about us

DiSclafani Designs is a diversified architectural and interior design firm, whose president Dr. Mark DiSclafani, a board-certified physician and surgeon of Ophthalmology, brings an exceptional amount of expertise to our design programming for all medical and healthcare related projects.  Dr. DiSclafani has owned and operated independent outpatient surgery centers and can consult from an owner, end user and patient point of view.  This unique knowledge is put to use immediately when pursuing, designing and contracting for any medical facility,

including outpatient surgery centers as they are being developed every day across the nation.  Dr. DiSclafani has advised many doctors and past residents across the nation for preoperative planning, in addition to advising during an actual surgery when unexpected complications occur and are known for his ability to solve problems.  Dr. D is a proud University of Texas graduate and has never lost the love of learning.

Dr. DiSclafani’s expertise within our design firm is what separates DDpa from any other firm when planning, designing and building ophthalmic and general medical facilities.  His expertise as an ophthalmologist and a current adjunct faculty member at the Morsani College of Medicine Eye Institute training future surgeons in the new USF wet lab not only keeps Dr. D’s skills sharp but satisfies his constant curiosity for new cutting-edge procedures and inventing better ways to perform these procedures.  Dr. D is an integral part of the USF Health Eye Institute’s research team and is currently pursuing patents for ophthalmic devices that will improve patient outcomes.

In addition, Dr. DiSclafani has partnered with Jessalyn L. DiSclafani, AIA., vice-president and registered architect having graduated from University of Florida and University of South Florida with 18 years of architectural design and construction experience.  Her experience in commercial, healthcare, residential and educational buildings including university scale projects only adds to the talents she brings to the design process.

DiSclafani Designs has worked with traditional Owner-Architect and design-build contract agreements, working hand-in-hand with the contractor, owner, and engineers regardless of the agreement type.  This streamlined process has sharpened our talents for prioritizing monies, design, and schedule to achieve the owner’s goals.  In the end, it still is all about team, ethics and hard work.  We believe in doing the “Right thing”. The Architect as prime will be intimately involved with the owner, end user, programming, presentation, and construction meetings.  The architect, Jessalyn L. DiSclafani will oversee the team and documents produced during each phase of the project.  It is critically important that our designs meet the unique requirements of the building occupants. We have had the pleasure of working with some fantastic clients, guiding them through conceptual ideas, design, fundraising, public presentations, permitting, AHCA reviews, bidding, contractor selection, construction, furnishings, fixtures and ultimately building occupation.

We have had many clients guiding them through all phases of a project and contract styles:

  • Contract Programming
  • Master Planning
  • Schematic Design
  • Design Development
  • Fund Raising
  • Public Presentations
  • Construction Documents
  • Permitting
  • AHCA review
  • Bidding
  • Contractor Selection
  • Construction Administration
  • Furnishings
  • Fixtures, and ultimately building occupation.

We have completed many projects under a traditional Owner-Architect agreement, design-build contracting directly with your contractor and for another design firm.  Either way, we are flexible working personally and closely with you, the owner, your contractor and our team of engineers.  This streamlined process has sharpened our talents for prioritizing monies, design, and schedule while still achieving the owner’s goals.  In the end, it is all about the team, our ethics, and hard work and creativity.

Our portfolio is currently made up of past projects while employed by other design firms. We are pursuing projects under the DiSclafani Designs expertise along with obtaining small business enterprise designation.  We are currently pursuing a state of Florida minority and women-owned business enterprise certification.

Our Team

Mark Disclafani, MD (aka “Dr. D.”), President and Chief Medical Officer of  DiSclafani Designs, p.a. has been a member of the medical community in the Tampa Bay region since joining The Eye Associates in Bradenton/Sarasota area in 1989. During his tenure as a partner/owner of this ophthalmology practice, he was involved in opening several new offices and medical parks.

Having a keen interest in maximizing staff and doctor efficiency, he worked closely with the whole design team on these projects to achieve this goal. He has great interest and satisfaction in working personally with the team, especially clients, to achieve the goals of maximizing revenue and minimizing costs.

Jessalyn L. DiSclafani, AIA., V.P. and Chief Designs Officer of DiSclafani Designs, p.a., has 18 years of architectural, interior design and construction experience in corporate office spaces, healthcare, medical offices, branch banks, religious facilities, educational buildings and tenant improvements.

The correct selection of interior building finishes is crucial to the success of any project. This is what separates DiSclafani Designs, P.A. and Jessalyn L. DiSclafani, AIA. apart from the typical architect. She has an incredible talent for using materials, color and texture in cost effective ways, while maintaining the rich timelessness and elegance that is required.
