about us

DiSclafani Designs is a diversified architectural and interior design firm, whose vice-president and University of Florida graduate Jessalyn L. DiSclafani has 19 years of architectural and construction experience in corporate office spaces, tenant improvements, healthcare, branch banks, medical offices, religious facilities and educational buildings including university scale projects.  We have worked with traditional Owner-Architect and design-build contract agreements, working hand-in-hand with the contractor, owner, and engineers regardless of the agreement type.

This stream-lined process has sharpened our talents for prioritizing monies, design, and schedule to achieve the owner’s goals.  In the end, it still is all about team, ethics and hard work.  We believe in doing the “Right thing”. The Architect as prime will be intimately involved with the owner, end user, programming, presentation and construction meetings.  The architect, Jessalyn L. DiSclafani will oversee the team and documents produced during each phase of the project.  It is critically important that our designs meet the unique requirements of the building occupants. We have had the pleasure of working with some fantastic clients, guiding them through conceptual ideas, design, fundraising, public presentations, permitting, AHCA reviews, bidding, contractor selection, construction, furnishings, fixtures and ultimately building occupation.

University Community Hospital-Carrollwood

The UCH inpatient and outpatient surgery and recovery center was a major addition to the existing UCH campus and introduced a new concept for the hospital, of using interior color selections and floor patterns as a wayfinding device for the patients and public circulation.  The facility was designed to maximize efficiency and patient flow while maximizing staff interaction.

The surgery center has:

  • 6 operating rooms with the ability to expand to 7, including a laminar flow system, 1 cysto, and 1 endo.
  • 17-bed recovery with semi-private rooms and one isolation room.
  • 9-bed holding area.
  • Doctor’s dictation.
  • Central waiting with direct access to the remaining facility.
  • Staff break room
  • Men’s and ladies locker rooms
  • Doctors lounge with showers and dressing rooms.

What separates this facility from others is that recovery has a band of windows that let the sunlight in and help with recovery of the patient and a better workplace for the employees.

USF Health Dept. of Ophthalmolgy Faculty Office

The Department of Ophthalmology at USF Health wanted to relocate their entire 24,000 sf. clinical and administrative departments into a new more contemporary space.  The clinical service moved into the Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare building on the University of South Florida, Tampa campus while the administrative moved into the Faculty office building across the drop off south of the Morsani building.  This gave the staff, faculty, fellows and residents direct access to their shared administrative work space.

Jessalyn L. DiSclafani, while employed as a USF Health architect and facilities project manager, also was entrusted by the administration for the development and design of their new 3,000 sf. USF Health Eye Institute academic office floor plan. The new administrative office space was designed and built in the adjacent faculty building to house the department chairman, program director and administrators of the department. It also included multiple work stations in shared offices for the faculty doctors, fellows and resident doctors in training, as well as clerical staff. This project worked concurrently with the clinical buildout which began in late 2017 with an architect of record and opened its’ doors in July 2018.

The new Eye Institute offices includes:

  • 7 shared offices (2 doctors each)
  • Department Chair office and Assistant (2 offices)
  • GME Coordinator office and Assistant (2 offices)
  • Department Administrator office
  • Residence Conference room
  • Financial Specialist
  • Copy area
  • Assistant work area

USF Health Eye Institute

The Department of Ophthalmology Eye Institute at USF Health wanted to relocate their entire 24,000 sf. clinical and administrative departments into a new more contemporary space.  The patient care clinic will move into the Carol and Frank Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare building, located at 13330 USF Laurel Dr. Tampa, FL 33612, on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida.  The administrative department will be relocated into the faculty office building adjacent to the patient drop-off and the Morsani building. This move will consolidate the USF Health patient care departments within one central building on campus, the Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare.

Jessalyn L. DiSclafani, while employed as a USF Health architect and facilities project manager, was entrusted by administration for the development, programming and design of the new USF Health Eye Institute floor plan. This project, which began in late 2015, was put out for bid in late 2016 as a design-build contract with an architect of record and opened its’ doors in July 2018.  Collaborating closely throughout this process with her current partner, Dr. Mark DiSclafani, on all phases of programming, design, and FFE selections proved his expertise to be invaluable. Dr. D’s knowledge of patient/staff flow patterns and use of space from an end-user’s perspective led to a comprehensive design that utilizes a circular patient flow to maximize the clinic and staff efficiency within the existing building shell space.  This new 23,947 sf clinical and teaching facility occupies 80% of the fourth floor in the Morsani Building.

The unique elements purposefully implemented into this project are in the design of each patient care room, whether it be testing, exam and/or treatment rooms; they are all laid out in identical fashion. This was designed specifically for consistency of how each technician, resident and doctor uses their time with each patient to be most efficient and to reduce diagnostic errors.  Every drawer, piece of equipment and furniture placement are exactly the same, creating a repetition for each task.  This allows the patient examination to be focused purely on the patient and not trying to locate items in each room.   Of course, the pods are similar but contain items for each particular specialty, be it an initial tech examination, retina, glaucoma, cornea treatment visit but maintain the ability to convert any of these rooms’ use as patient flow changes during the day.

The teaching wet lab is one of a kind in the Tampa Bay area and is equipped with high resolution 80” and two 60” monitors on each side of the room for optimum viewing no matter where you are in the room, each connected to one of the ophthalmic surgical microscopes.  This give the participant and the faculty member to view the same image at the same time for teaching.

Specific areas of Expertise:

  1. Retina
  2. Glaucoma
  3. Cornea
  4. Ophthalmic Teaching Wet Lab
  5. Minor Procedure
  6. Oculoplastic
  7. Pediatric
  8. Research
  9. Electroretinography

The new Eye Institute includes:

  • 24 patient exam lanes (grouped in 6 pods of 4 lanes each to enhance doctor/staff efficiency)
  • 2 clinical research/Pediatric lanes
  • 3 laser rooms
  • 2 Electrophysiology testing rooms
  • 3 Visual Field testing lanes
  • 2 Ultrasound testing lanes

USF Health Clinical Research Center

USF Health Department of Clinical Research was very much in need of one contiguous space on the campus of the University of South Florida.  They were spread among multiple spaces in separate buildings within the medical school, including the Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare, the faculty office building and medical school academic office buildings. The goal was to consolidate their 1st floor clinical and administrative offices into one location.  As part of the 2018 infill project of the Carol and Frank Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare 4th floor, they captured 4,147 sf. of dedicated space for the Clinical Research Center which included patient clinical and lab space.

Jessalyn L. DiSclafani, AIA while employed as a USF Health architect and facilities project manager, worked with the department administrator to design twelve sun filled patient exam rooms, along with clinical research lab space to meet the growing needs of their most advanced research needs.

The CRC clinical and administrative departments were able to consolidate in a new forward-thinking space with ample room to grow their practice and meet the demands of their current clients.  This project began in late 2015, and put out for bid in late 2016 as a design-build contract with an architect of record, opened its’ doors in July 2018.  Jessalyn collaborated closely throughout the entire process with the administrative director on all phases of programming, design, and FFE selections. She was very clear and concise to work with which made the collaboration process very enjoyable.

The new Clinical Research Center includes:

  • Check-in with a waiting area
  • Patient registration/vitals area
  • 6 patient exam rooms
  • 6 Infusion rooms
