DiSclafani Designs is a diversified architectural and interior design firm, whose vice-president and University of Florida graduate Jessalyn L. DiSclafani has 19 years of architectural and construction experience in corporate office spaces, tenant improvements, healthcare, branch banks, medical offices, religious facilities and educational buildings including university scale projects. We have worked with traditional Owner-Architect and design-build contract agreements, working hand-in-hand with the contractor, owner, and engineers regardless of the agreement type.
This stream-lined process has sharpened our talents for prioritizing monies, design, and schedule to achieve the owner’s goals. In the end, it still is all about team, ethics and hard work. We believe in doing the “Right thing”. The Architect as prime will be intimately involved with the owner, end user, programming, presentation and construction meetings. The architect, Jessalyn L. DiSclafani will oversee the team and documents produced during each phase of the project. It is critically important that our designs meet the unique requirements of the building occupants. We have had the pleasure of working with some fantastic clients, guiding them through conceptual ideas, design, fundraising, public presentations, permitting, AHCA reviews, bidding, contractor selection, construction, furnishings, fixtures and ultimately building occupation.

The architect as a prime consultant will be intimately involved in the owner, end user, programming, presentation and contractor meetings. We will oversee the team and documents produced during each phase of the process. It is critically important that our designs meet the unique requirements of the building occupants.
Commercial architects are licensed professionals that design buildings and structures for non-residential use, such as retail and office buildings. Aside from aesthetics, architects must consider an array of factors during the design process, such as functionality, building codes, safety regulations and construction.
Samurai Blue Sushi and Sake bar was an interior tenant build-out located in the heart of Florida’s Latin quarter, Centro Ybor City historic district in Tampa, Florida. The restaurant is located on the second story within two separate adjacent connected buildings, one half in the section on the national historic registry and the other is a new infill building constructed in 1999. The dining room and sushi and sake bar is located in the fly loft in the existing theater.
Designing and constructing in such a building as Centro Espanola brings about a separate set of rules for design and construction within the space. Not only did we have to submit for local permitting, but also the State of Florida for approval to connect to the exterior walls or roof structure above in any way due to the historic building it is housed in.
As part of the larger development, the Centro Espanola building is separated into three tenant spaces. Samurai Blue leased a 1100 sf. second floor space that was created within the fly loft of the existing theater that is now a comedy theater club below. The brick load-bearing walls are exposed and remained that way preserving the historic character for the dining room.
The dining room, sushi and liquor bars are contained within the historic building space, while the kitchen, utilities and toilet rooms were located in a new building directly adjacent. The developer built a new building in red brick attached to the historic structure. A major task was penetrating the two- foot thick brick walls of the existing old building, to create a passage to the new kitchen and toilet rooms. Today the connection between old and new is seamless but when sitting in the dining room you can feel the walls have many stories to tell.
